The artists of Zululand were donated premises for an indefinite period to exhibit their works on the first floor of the Lake View Terrace, Richards Bay. This offer was made by the ABSA group.to Thelma Lowery who has had a framing/art supply firm in the area for the last 27 years. The gallery officially opened on July 24 and the Zululand artists exhibiting their work have formed the Hlanganani Art Group.

In addition to an annual membership fee of R15, the artists pay a R10 hanging and display fee per item for a maximum display period of three months. This money goes towards advertising and exhibition expenses. The 20% commission on work sold offsets daily administration costs and each artist is expected to sit at the gallery one day per month

Hlanganani hopes to become a venue where Zululand artists can show their work provided it is of a good standard. Hlanganani will also host workshops and will encourage school tours in order to stimulate young people’s interest in art. It is also hoped to have public art and music appreciation evenings.
