The NSA Gallery approached a variety of Durban based artists (established and emerging) to contribute to an exhibition of drawings that sets up a range of drawing styles and intentions. Some artists sketch out ideas for bigger works whilst others work with drawing as their main medium. The definition of “drawing” is also wide - and sometimes slippery.

Titled Doodles: A group exhibition of serious drawings running in the Mezzanine and Park Galleries at the NSA until April 28, it will profile some “notes” on the state of drawing in current art making and the position of drawing in contemporary practice might possibly emerge.

The exhibition includes selected works whereas some artists were specifically commissioned to produce new work. The exhibition also “traces” some of the links the Gallery has made as contributions were also invited from artist whom recently exhibited at the venue. The exhibition will focus on recent works (post 2001) and works made for the exhibition. Artists participating include Gabi Nkosi, Virginia MacKenny, Andrew Verster, Helen Clara-Hemsley, Seodin O'Sullivan, Nathi Khanyile, Georgia Kotretsos and Ingrid Winterbach amongst others
