Thulani Mchunu has been interested in drawing since he began school. With no formal training, he draws entirely from memory and likes to depict detailed scenes of real life. These include what he sees around him in his home environment near Richmond and in the city of Pietermaritzburg. Thulani likes to refer to these vivid and finely-observed drawings as his “maps”.

Thulani Mchunu will be exhibiting his ballpoint and koki pen drawings in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg from September 21 until October 17.
