NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. In February, the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery will feature the works of Johannesburg artist Robert Domijan. Robert Domijan completed his studies in fine art at the Pretoria Technikon in 1982 and has been painting as a full-time artist, exhibiting locally and abroad. Stylistically, he is a painter of modern life and his subjects include figurative, portraiture and landscapes. He works predominantly in oils but also produces watercolour, acrylics and paintings as well as lino and woodcuts and sculpture. He has recently started to explore land and video/sound art. “The act of painting is one of the ways to manifest, adorn and celebrate the experience of life in its pleasure and pain,” says Robert Domijan. “I create paintings and sculptures that are metaphors of my thoughts, ideas, dreams and desires. I wish to convey both my conscious and unconscious through ambiguities of abstract and functional forms.”
