The Light of Origins/ La Lumière des Origines exhibition of original works by 20th century French artist Marc Chagall at the Standard Bank Gallery in Johannesburg has been extended until December 1 due to public demand (see review on these pages). The exhibition was originally planned to close on November 25.

"We've had an overwhelming response and the number of visitors far exceeded our expectations,” says Mandie van der Spuy, Standard Bank arts sponsorship manager. “Almost 10,000 people have been through the exhibition since the opening three and a half weeks ago. It's simply amazing how the public has responded."

The exhibition's walkabout and education programmes (see also review on Chagall Educational Resource), which includes lectures and workshops for school children and art students, has also been a huge success with numerous requests for additional workshops and tours. The gallery expanded the walkabout programme and these are now held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 13h00 to 14h00. Walkabouts are free but booking is essential.

The Standard Bank Gallery is on the corner of Simmonds and Frederick Streets. Phone (011) 636-4231.
