Ningizimu School for the Severely Mentally Handicapped has become well-known for its commendable work in encouraging its students to interact with their mainstream counterparts through various facets of the arts. Slowly, the painstaking work spearheaded by school principal Constance Ngubane and art teacher Robin Opperman is paying off and they are beginning to get the credit and exposure they deserve.

Ningizimu has teamed up with a group of children in Singapore for a competition entitled ThinkQuest. “It is a competition where children co-operate internationally in order to develop web pages,” says Robin Opperman. “We did the art for our partners’ page, which originates in Singapore and they have recently placed our art on their page.”
