NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Upper South Coat Art Association will present its 17th annual exhibition for public viewing from July 24 to 30 in the Amanzimtoti Library Activities Hall from 09h00 to 17h30. “On view will be artworks by approximately 50 artists on various subjects and in many different mediums. There will be landscape, still life, abstract, wildlife and bird life - in oils, watercolour, pastels and mixed mediums. Also fabric painted articles, wood carvings and other kind of artworks,” says USCAA president Hendriett Wolmarans. For the first time, the exhibition will include a collection of silver work in the form of wearable sculpture by well-known silversmith Gustav Kaltenbrun. “Silver jewellery has, in the past been ignored as an art form,” says Gustav, “and USCAA should therefore be congratulated on breaking barriers to include my silver pieces which are so different from the norm.” More details from Hendriett on (031) 916-2029.
