The Durban Art Gallery’s Gallery 3 will host a South African originated exhibition titled Postcards from the Edge for the duration of the XIII International Aids Conference taking place from July 9 to 14.

The works featured are by children who are affected by HIV/AIDS – those who are either infected or who have been orphaned by the disease. The presentation will feature a collaborative “curtain” of inscribed/imprinted glazed ceramic tiles. Drawings and paintings will also be shown together with photographs that document the extensive workshop process that generated the exhibition.

Two-day workshops in children1s homes, street shelters and with community based organisations gave children the opportunity to participate in creative and expressive activities and thus find a “voice”. Postcards of the children’s work will be available and all proceeds will be equally distributed between participating childcare centres. Postcards from the Edge refers to messages, identity and “margins”.
