Durban artist Clive Sithole won the trophy design competition against contenders from around the province to produce the award trophy for Price-Waterhouse Coopers Premier's Good Governance Award.

The aim of the awards is to honour those who are an inspiration to others to make KZN's provincial services the best in the world, thus setting examples to improve services to the extent that KZN becomes a benchmark against which other provinces measured themselves. In this way, the KZN government hoped to improve its competitive edge, increase investor confidence and become more competitive in local and global terms.
