NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg will host a week-end workshop by Jill Trappler titled The more you look, the more you see. Jill Trappler completed her high school at the then Collegiate Girls School in Pietermaritzburg then went on to study at the Johannesburg Art Foundation under her uncle, Bill Ainslie. Her commitment to the making of art has taken on various forms. She has taught art in Johannesburg and established craft employment projects and art workshops around Cape Town. She has also co-ordinated exhibitions and facilitated numerous Thupelo art workshops around the country. In her workshop, she will explore different ways of seeing and working. The intention will be to try and change habits, work with the unknown, unlearn what we know and take a fresh look at image making. Trappler will encourage participants to change scale, pace and work with different materials. The first part of the workshop runs from 18h00 on June 30 until 21h00. For the following two days, the workshops run from 09h00 to 16h00. The cost is R250 in total. To book phone (033) 342-1804.
