Alliance Française de Durban presents Artists in Conversation from June 7, an exhibition of dry-point etchings produced by South African artists in workshops with French artist Jean-Yves André at Alliance Française centres throughout South Africa.

In the words of Fabrice Mongiat, director of the Alliance at Mitchell’s Plain, the main objective of this cross-cultural international exchange was for artists to discover each other’s culture by means of the same medium. The 32 etchings include work by South African art students, amateur and well-known artists such as Gary Fryer who will accompany the exhibition to France.

Other professional South African artists represented are Jan Jordaan and Bongile Funani Mkhezi. The exhibit, which is supported by the French Institute of South Africa, will run until June 30 after which it continues its tour of South Africa, Swaziland and France. Jan Jordaan of Technikon Natal will speak at the opening at 17h30 on June 7. The Alliance is situated at 22 Sutton Crescent Morningside.
