The Durban Art Gallery is planning a spectacular art/social awareness event to coincide with the AIDS 2000 Conference to be held at the ICC from July 9-14. This event will take the form of a 500 metre long red fabric banner to be painted by approximately 100 organisations and individuals. This will culminate in a parade on July 12 launched from the ICC where the banner will be carried by all participants and interested organisations ending at the City Centre where the banner will then be tied around the circumference of the City hall at 2nd floor level. The width of the banner will be two metres and will make a powerful statement about Aids in the symbolic centre of the City. Andrew Verster, Fiona Kirkwood, Pascale Chandler, Trevor Makhuba and Joseph Manana are just some of the artists who have taken panels.
