Kickstarting the Fresh Paint Gallery’s busy 2008 calendar is Hayibo!!, a quirky exhibition of innovative mixed media. The first exhibition features exciting new works by Welcome Danca (paintings); Sibusiso Duma (paintings); Lindelani Ndimisi (sculpture); Bheki Khambule (paintings) and Sicelo Ziqubu (papier-mâché chairs and mirror / picture frames).

The common thread among many of the chosen artworks is a self-deprecating wry comment on the foibles, juxtapositions and complexities of life in contemporary South Africa. The pieces are mostly narrative - from Zulu warriors surfing in the Durban waves (Bheki Khambule); to an unemployed man looking to an (empty) church for guidance (Sibusiso Duma); to a muti-seller clad in branded urban gear (Welcome Danca) and larger than life papier-mâché chairs themed to 2010 and BEE (Sicelo Ziqubu).
