Works by three KwaZulu-Natal artists have been selected for the prestigious Sasol New Signatures Competition exhibition opening at the Pretoria Art Museum on August 1.

Simon Danielle Thom’s Opening your eyes and really view the beauty in ordinary objects or life; Nirmi Ziegler’s mixed media work Fragmented and Sabelo Innocent Khumalo’s silkscreen New Born will form part of the 91-piece exhibition.

The winner of the 2007 Sasol New Signatures Competition will be announced at the opening of the competition exhibition. This year’s competition carries total prize money of R100,000, comprising an overall first prize of R60,000, a runner-up award of R15.000 and five merit awards of R5,000 each.

“The New Signatures competition is the longest running and most prestigious competition for emerging artists in South Africa,” says Franci Cronje, Sasol New Signatures Competition chairperson. “In its long history, the competition has played an important role in launching the careers of many of South Africa’s established and respected contemporary artists.”

Presented by the Association of Arts Pretoria, The Sasol New Signatures Competition Exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum will run until September 9, 2007.
