Running from April 6 to 30 in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg will be an innovative exhibition of words and images. Organised by Anna Varney of the Art Studio in Johannesburg, the Manuscript Exhibition consists of writers’ journals, artists’ notebooks, sketches, mini-installations - in fact, anything that challenges the viewer to question where words and visual images begin and end.

Drawing on the strengths of visual artists like Wilma Cruise and Willem Boshoff and poets like Arja Salafranca and Gary Cummiskey, the multi-form works invite audience participation through handling their scrawled pages, unrolling papyrus scrolls or simply meditating on the visual confluence of word and image.
