NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. artSPACE durban’s middle gallery is to host a photographic exhibition by Jeaniene Dekker titled Post No Bill . Jeaniene's body of work is a series of portraits of beauty starring Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Southern Africa. It is a short, colourful story focusing on the women and children of Africa. The images are projections of colour, texture, and soul. The pictures have a subtle, journalistic feel and scrape the lives of traders, mothers, daughters, wrestlers, and reed dancers. Jeaniene's inspiration comes from the vibrant, impulsive, raw expression of native African culture. Jeaniene Dekker is a scenic painter in the film industry by profession and a part-time multi-media artist. Digital photography has allowed her the freedom to capture a fusion of painting and film. This exhibition is dedicated to the women of Africa. Post No Bill runs from October 23 to November 11.
