The exhibition is made up of ten paintings and was inspired by a collection of short poems written by Playhouse Company Dance and Drama manager Gerard Samuel for Journeys in Dance, a dance project involving children and teachers from schools for the physically challenged in 1998.

Samuel and Brysch first met in 1998 as a result of the Danish Cultural Institute’s cultural exchange programme which encourages artistic, culture and musical collaborations and exchanges between South Africa and Denmark.

At the airport when Brysch was leaving for Copenhagen, Samuel presented her with the poems which, she says, she did not immediately have the opportunity to picture. Later, when a trip to Turkey were she was to act as artistic director on a film was cancelled as a result of the devastating earthquakes, she had the time to read the poems and suddenly pictures formed in her mind, creating the basis of Journeys
