For their second event, the new Kizo Gallery at Gateway will present an exhibition of work by Wakaba Anthony Mutheki which will open on February 13.

With no formal art training, this talented young artist is creating a major stir amongst South African and international art collectors alike. Tony boasts sell-out shows in New York and Philadelphia and has travelled and exhibited extensively both locally and abroad.

An extremely versatile artist, he works in various mediums including oil, acrylic and interesting textures made from mixed media such as hessian. His works can range from modern contemporary to ultra realism.

“Having lived in a shelter in Johannesburg, surviving from the sale of empty Coke bottles, I experienced and learned to understand poverty and the harsher side of life,” he says. “These experiences have taught me to treasure life and have inspired me to recreate this love of life through the medium of art.”

The exhibition will run from February 14 to March 1 at Kizo Gallery, Shop G350 Palm Boulevard, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga. Further information on 031 566 4322.
