artSPACE durban is to host an exhibition titled Foursome which comprises paintings by Pascale Chandler, Di Maroun, Marlene Wasserman, and Sharon Zoepke.

The work is produced by four Durban artists who are all connected through Pascale as their painting instructor. The four artists are coming together for the first time into artSPACE durban's warehouse-style gallery and each artist will be working within her own theme.

Pascale Chandler has exhibited many times in Durban and her artist statement reads: “There are four central narratives that define the concerns of the work: identity, ownership, fragility and impermanence. The wheelbarrow and a self-portrait of ceremonial significance (painted in 1998) perform an interesting dual, to interrogate identity and the inevitable passage of time.”

Di Maroun says: “My painting is an expression of identity. My father was passionate about African culture and history; my mother was brought up in England. A diary of her experiences there allowed me to share that part of her life with her. My paintings similarly serve to diarise my formative life at Fugitives Drift. As an only child I am extremely conscious of documenting and preserving history, and I dedicate this work to my children.

Foursome opens on February 6 at 18h30 and runs until February 25 at 13h00.
