While artSMart focuses on news of KZN, occasionally we feature a high profile event taking place outside of the province. Walter Battiss: Gentle Anarchist is a comprehensive exhibition of the work of Walter Battiss (1906 - 1982) which will be on display at the Standard Bank Gallery in Johannesburg from October 20 to December 3.

Almost 200 works will be exhibited, including oil and watercolour paintings, graphic art, sketches and tapestries. These works have been drawn from both public and private collections held all over South Africa, and reflect Battiss's prolific artistic career spanning more than 50 years.

The Walter Battiss: Gentle anarchist exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

The Standard Bank Gallery is on the corner Simmonds and Frederick Street, Johannesburg. Phone 011 636 4231.
