NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The popular Florida Road restaurant/meeting place, Bean Bag Bohemia is to show small solo exhibitions monthly from June 20 in its newly revamped upstairs reception area. Christiaan Nagel’s The Jester Script Transfigured is the first exhibition which will open on June 20 at 18h00 at Bean Bag with drinks and snacks. “Our first body of work is by Christiaan Nagel who explores drip painting using high gloss car enamel on a bold scale,” says exhibition curator, Tamlyn Martin. “Nagel studied psychology and has had little formal art training, he brings a spunky boldness to the technique of drip painting.” The Jester Script Transfigured suggests that life and art should sometimes be without method and boundaries. "I paint to loud music and choose colours instinctively and impulsively," says Christiaan Nagel. "The word Jester refers to how mindlessly people live their lives, according to the 'Scripts' of daily working hours. Jester can also refer to the variety and brightness of colours I use. The word Script refers to the rules structures/methods artists follow when painting, drawing or sculpting. Further information from curator Tamlyn Martin on 084 585 5995.
