A new body of work by Mfudo Xaba and Benald Tladi titled Ritual will be officially opened on May 17 at 18h00 at HOME, corner Innes and Windermere Roads.

Mfundo Xaba's works are black and white lino prints onto canvas entitled Absence and presence. This series of contemporary graphic prints deals with Xaba's personal struggle with spiritual beliefs. His work offers a refreshing reflection on the transmissions between traditional and Christian belief systems informing his contemporary African identity.

Benald Tladi's paintings are abstractions of richly accelerated patternings, reminiscent of Klimpt. His intricate swirling abstractions evoke a sense of music and rhythm. The paintings talk about a world that moves at a rapid pace, racing through its daily rituals. Delicate hands, involved in simple activities are layered over the abstractions, to symbolise the quiet slow beauty of age old rituals, like planting crops and making fire – a reminder to take time to enjoy the everyday.
