Performance artist and choreographer, Durban-based Jay Pather, who just won a major award at the Brett Kebble Art Awards, is giving special performances of his winning work Kitchen at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Pather won a coveted 'Kebble' for Kitchen which may well shock audiences in which a living Jesus hangs above a kitchen dresser watching as dancers tear apart and reconstruct ancient traditions. Kitchen combines traditional Zulu ritual, dance, text and video.

Free performances will be staged on Saturday and Sunday (October 23 and 24) at 11h00, 13h00 and 15h00 at the Cape Town Convention Centre, Hall 1.

Jay Pather dashed back from New York to receive his award for the work and has agreed to remain in Cape Town so that audiences can see why the distinguished judging panel selected his work for the award.

Kebble Award curator Clive van den Berg said that demand is so great that visitors are advised to get to the art exhibition well before one o'clock in order to get a good view: "Kitchen is staged right in the exhibition so there are many other wonderful things to be seen including all the other finalists’ work and the winning pieces," he said. "There is no charge for entry and I would advise people not to leave without seeing Tanya Poole's stunning winning entry Missing."
