The popular Durban Art Gallery initiative, Red Eye, is calling for submissions from artists for their up-coming event taking place at the end of April. The theme will be South Africa: 10 Years of Democracy.

Successful applicants will be given a standard gazebo (such as those used by various street vendors within the Durban CBD). The artists will then be expected to create an artwork/installation in accordance with the theme by utilizing the gazebo. Each gazebo-installation will form part of the outdoor component of the event, which will take place in Smith Street.

Each artist must be able to set up/erect their gazebo-installation within 90 minutes on the evening. This is an important aspect of the project and a proposal will not be considered if this time frame is not strictly adhered to. Artists will have access to a basic power supply and will be entirely responsible for their installation as well as any artworks/equipment etc.

Artists must submit detailed proposals accompanied by sketches/visual material/diagrams, a motivation as well as a short Curriculum Vitae.

A selection committee will review all submissions and the 10 best proposals will be selected for the "Gazebo" project. Closing date for submissions is March 17.
