NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Amanda van Helfteren is to present an exhibition titled The Shape of Things To Come at the Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery in February. Amanda was born in the Netherlands, and came to South Africa in her younger years. She is currently completing her Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, specializing in ceramics and drawing. She is influenced by the strangeness in nature and seeks bold, simple forms that are found in nature. She contorts and exaggerates them to their limits. Her work has changed over the past three years from creating simple and easy-to-interpret artwork, to seeking every effort to stretch the viewer’s imagination. In this, her first major exhibition, she hopes to give a taste of her work in progress. The exhibition will contain a selection of her Honour's year work, and her current Masters work. The Shape of Things To Come runs from February 3 to March 3. The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery is situated on the Butterflies for Africa premises in Pietermaritzburg. It is open from Tuesdays to Sundays. More details on 033 387 1356, e-mail: art@butterflies.co.za or visit www.butterflies.co.za
