As part of its annual celebration commemorating National Women's Day, the BAT Centre will host an interactive women's art workshop.

Beyond the Body, an initiative spearheaded by the artists' collaborative Third Eye Vision features the talents of young female KZN visual artists, poets, performers, actresses and dancers.

"Women's bodies, like their lives, were formerly subject to a whole range of strictures dictated by a tradition of oppression in this country," says BAT Centre art curator Nonto Ntombela. "The Women's Day Workshop will examine and celebrate women's contribution to social change in both their personal spaces and communal public arenas.”

The event will run in the Dance Studio at the BAT Centre from August 4 to 9, culminating on National Women's Day (August 9) with the opening of an exhibition of installations, drawings, paintings, performance art and poetry. The exhibition will open in the Menzi Mchunu and Democratic Galleries at the BAT Centre at 17h30 on August 9.

The public is invited to an Open Day at the BAT Centre on August 6 between 09h00 and 16h00, during which time visitors can interact with the artists participating in the National Women's Day Workshops, and watch them developing their artworks and performances.
