TaXi is the title of a series of books that begins to correct the lack of published documentation on contemporary South African art. The series – initiated in 2000 by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and Pro Helvetia - Arts Council of Switzerland and published by David Krut Publishing – is additionally funded by the National Arts Council (NAC), the Royal Netherlands Embassy, MTN Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The series is envisaged as a long-term, non-profit cultural investment that will provide exposure for local artists and writers and develop an active educational programme and teaching resource archive. Each title in the series is accompanied by an educational supplement which contains worksheets for students as well as guidelines for teachers. Learners are given an opportunity to get to know and appreciate the artworks, their personal values and identities, their communities and their histories.

2001/2 saw the publication of titles on fine art photographer Jo Ractliffe, performance artist and sculptor Samson Mudzunga, conceptual artist Jeremy Wafer, photographer Santu Mofokeng, photographer and installation artist Lien Botha and painter and curator David Koloane.

Taxi Art Books sell for R 150 including their educational supplement and can be found at Exclusive Books and other selected bookstores and galleries nationwide.
