From March 13, the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg will host an exhibition by the talented young photographer Precious Ngcobo. Not at all afraid to step into an arena previously dominated by men, her work emphasises the need of all South Africans to tell their own stories or dreams in their own way.

Precious Ngcobo is an independent photo-journalist who lives and works in the Durban area. She was born in Hammarsdale in 1979 and is currently studying photography at Natal Technikon. She has had her work published in various KZN newspapers and magazines and in 2002 was a contract photographer for the Centre for Creative Arts during their annual Time of the Writer and Poetry Africa poets festivals.

According to Precious Ngcobo, her work, which depicts ordinary people caught unaware in real-life situations, "occupies a space in my heart where words will not do". Her exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the late photo-journalist, Clint Zasman. It will be on view in the west gallery until April 13.
