The Reverend Jen Hands, Community Priest of St Thomas Church remarked that a bright and beautiful butterfly had flown away.

It was at the funeral service of Sandra Roux Braude, who died so suddenly on December 27, leaving a void in the arts community of Durban. For more than 20 years Sandra has played a quintessential role in the arts life of our city, having been President of both the Durban Art Gallery and the NSA, as well as having convened several major art exhibitions, and taking a leading part in community arts projects.

The current Buzzart Christmas Exhibition at the NSA was spearheaded by her.

Sandra will always be remembered and valued for her willingness to cooperate, her generosity of spirit her unwavering faith in her religion and her innate creativity. She was a competent artist in her own right and held a Fine Arts Degree from UNISA.

We extend our condolences to her husband Nevil, her children and all those in her extended family. - Hannah Lurie - Life Vice-President NSA
