NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The O’Chefe Restaurant in The Square in Umhlanga Rocks Drive offers Portuguese cuisine as well as live Latin American music every Friday and Saturday night from 20h00 until late. The resident musician, José Carlos will be well-known to Durbanites who frequented El Caçador in Point Road. José’s repertoire ranges from soft Portuguese ballads played earlier in the evening to hot Salsa numbers when patrons can let their hair down and cha-cha the night away. “On occasion, we have musicians who visit and treat us with their music like Shaun of Fusion Concept,” says proprietor Sherryl Carrilho. “The best way to describe the evening is hot and sultry with excellent cuisine.” O’Chefe is situated in The Square at 250 Umhlanga Rocks Drive and is open seven days a week. The venue also offers Sunday braai’s and special lunches. Phone (031) 566-2814/5.
