NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The stars of Kevin Feather’s The Doowah Boys 3 are bound to have the girls all a-doo-dah, if the previous productions of the same name are anything to go by. As before, the focus is on hits made famous by all-male groups – some performed straight (Queen and Bread) and some decidedly `non’-straight, such as send-ups of numbers by the Beatles, the Bee Gees and The Osmonds. This time, the show features a Durban artist, well-known and highly popular Percy Smith (last seen in Themi Venturas’s Cantina Tequila. Making a welcome return home will be another Durban artist, Andrew Webster who has been performing the title role in the revival of Buddy at the State Theatre in Pretoria. He appeared as the cook in the Playhouse’s award-winning production of Return to the Forbidden Planet. Other members of the cast will be Brandon Auret who makes regular appearances as a policeman in Isidingo: The Need and Emmanuel Castis who was in the Cape production of The Rocky Horror Show. The show comes to Durban direct from its tour of Zimbabwe to run for a short season at the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea from May 18 to 30. Tickets at R85 include the show and a set three-course meal. To book phone (031) 563-7324.
