Stuart Mey produced and directed the slick and successful tribute Santana earlier this year at the Playhouse Cellar.

His next venture will be a tribute to rock legend Eric Clapton which will open at the same venue towards the end of January. Eric Clapton will cover the best of the legendary singer/guitarist’s music ranging from when he started with the Yardbirds, covering his time with Cream and Blind Faith as well his more recent collaborations.

As was the case in previous productions, Eric Clapton will feature a number of guitarists, including the gifted Rowan Stuart and Andy Turrell who were so prominent in the Santana show and previously in The Guitar that Rocked the World.

In the same vein as Santana, which had to be extended due to public demand, and Legend of Eagles, this show will not be a history lesson. Stuart Mey aims to create the kind of vibe of “a group of friends getting together at someone's house, hanging out and enjoying the music in a relaxed atmosphere." His “tribute" shows are also fast gaining a reputation for the high standard of accuracy of the music.

If the public's reaction to Eric Clapton is anything like the response to Santana, early booking is advisable.

Eric Clapton opens in the Playhouse Cellar on January 29 for a limited season and booking is now open at Computicket and Playhouse Dial a Seat.
