NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The irrepressible Gee Jays are presenting a reworked and restructured version of their popular show, The Three Tonners. This irreverent tribute to the Three Tenors runs at the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea for a three week season from October 19 to November 7. The Gee Jays - known for their vocal talent and lightweight sense of fun - are Gary McKenzie, John Didlick and Grant Bell going as Flacido Demingo, Lucciano Pervallotti and Expose' Carrerras. Their show takes the musical mickey out of classical music's sacred cows and pokes fun at the famous tenors with numbers such as such as He Ain't Heavy (oh yes he is!), River of Dreams, Living Doll, Great Balls of Fire, Johnny B Good, La Bamba and others. They also feature some serious music for the discerning music lover performed … well, definitely quite unlike any other way you have heard it! - Largo al Factotum, La Donna e'mobile, Finnicculi Finniccula and the overture to William Tell. Tickets for The Three Tonners include a three-course meal catered by the Langoustine-by-the- Sea. Book through the Langoustine on (031) 563-7324 (ask for Lisa Todd), or via Computicket. Save half of your booking costs and book directly on the internet at http://www.computicket.com.
