The Royal Hotel has launched a new restaurant entertainment venue called Backstage – Live at The Royal which will host a variety of shows from jazz to cabaret, stand-up comedy and theatrical pieces complemented by an interesting series of menus. Situated on the Smith Street side of the hotel where the former Steak Room and Tavern restaurants were housed, Backstage – Live at The Royal offers an intimate, upmarket atmosphere in a convenient location with secure parking in the adjacent Royal Parking Garage.

Currently playing is the well-known band, Take 5, recently back from their third contract in the Middle East. Led by pianist Chantal Sanders (always a major drawcard), the group has a reputation for impeccable musicianship and professionalism with Nkanyezi Cele on drums, Jerry Kunene on sax and Bongani Sokhela on bass. Add to Esther Miller’s seductive voice an extensive repertoire containing a wide variety of styles and you have all the ingredients for a sophisticated evening of good food and laid-back top quality music.
