Anthony Stonier, well-known for his appearances – and long, shapely legs – in the Playhouse Cellar pantomime shows, has devised, written and produced an audience with Dora Hardyke which opens in the Cellar on September 4.

Sit down comedy at its best, the show revolves around the life and times of Dora Hardyke (Anthony Stonier), star of stage, screen and the occasional circus. Also featured are her daughter Daphne played by David Hierons who is another adult pantomime favourite and Dora’s oldest and dearest long suffering friend, Beulah, played by Derek Pearce who also designed the costumes.

A “woman of substance”, Dora Hardyke reflects on her life, dispenses advice, covers topical issues and warbles her way through some delightful songs including Nobody Does It Like Me, New York-New York, Le Jazz Hot and As Long As He Needs Me.

An audience with Dora Hardyke has a limited season and runs until September 16. Tickets R105 includes a three-course meal. There’s a bonus performance on Sunday (R80 includes two-course meal) and an extra early show on Friday (R35 – no meal).
