NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Blu is a new and upmarket club at 226 Stamford Hill Road. While Friday and Saturday nights are club nights at Blu, the rest of the week promises to exploit the venue’s versatility to capacity with live music, comedy, private functions, cabaret and student nights. Rewind 2 Blu is the name of the show which will initiate the venue’s vinyl lounge as a regular Wednesday night cabaret hotspot. Featuring Monique Hebrard and Natalie Toyne in a programme of jazz, blues and contemporary pop, the show was well received at its showing at the NOT the Grahamstown Festival. It is written and directed by NTGF award winner Shireen James with musical direction by Colin Peddie and choreography by Denya Maslen. (See review on these pages) Tickets R45 include a snack platter and a welcoming drink. Booking for the show is essential on 072 223-3475.
