NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Owner and producer of the Dockyard Theatre in Musgrave Centre, Stuart Mey has reunited his popular band of yesteryear, Larry and the Lounge Lizards. They will appear in regular dine-and-dance evenings every Tuesday night. Larry and the Lounge Lizards was originally formed by Stuart Mey in 1988 and it fast became one of South Africa’s most popular bands. Operating in the corporate market, as well as in clubs, the group travelled the length and breadth of South Africa. When Stuart Mey opened The Dockyard Theatre in 2003 on the Point Waterfront, he disbanded the group to concentrate on the production of shows. However, he has had numerous requests to revive the band and settle into a venue where like-minded people can come along, enjoy a meal and dance. Stuart Mey, on lead vocals, appears with Glen Turrell on bass, Gerald Knott and Bruce Boome on guitar, Ian Webster on drums and Ian Wells on keyboards. Tuesday nights at The Dockyard will carry a R30 cover charge and only patrons over the age of 30 will be admitted! More information from The Dockyard Theatre on 031 201 9147.
