NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Currently showing at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway, Surfing Safari promises a sassy, sexy and sizzling show making it the perfect foil for any summertime blues. The focal point of the set is a typical beach bar where the cast chill, mixing themselves wicked cocktails. Dialogue is kept to a minimum allowing the music to take over. Lighting designer Michael Broderick has captured the mood with an obligatory sunset and tropical moon. The man at the helm is Andrew Webster, who knows a lot about life on the beach, being a Durban boy himself. Andrew has always been a mean guitarist and he gets the opportunity to show his skill in several numbers. One of the new faces is Nigel Morkel, of Afro-Z fame, who performs numbers such as Well Alright and a Cliff Richard medley On The Beach and Sea Cruise. Also appearing are Monique Steyn and Michelle Martini with Josh Thatcher on lead guitar and djembe drum. Tickets R100 booked through The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045.
