In their new cabaret show, Sweet & Hot, Karen Campbell-Gillies and Charles Kusner celebrate the coffee bean, which, like love and life, is strong, satisfying, and addictive.

Besides singing an electric mix of songs ranging from Java Jive and Misty to Burning Love and Black Coffee, the singers will also whip up some recipes in the kitchen (Act One - Sweet) and the bar (Act Two - Hot).

Karen Campbell-Gillies has appeared in many productions on Durban’s stages, ranging from Shakespeare to musicals. She was seen recently on the Rhumbelow stage in Déjà Vu with Anthony Stonier, and will feature prominently at the end of year pantomime at the Catalina.

Charles Kusner has appeared in two JODS musicals: The Gondoliers and Man of La Mancha. In Durban he played Dean Martin in Colin Penn’s Rat Pack tribute. He is also a schoolteacher, Shiatsu Therapist, and eager-to-publish author.

Shows take place on August 25 and 26 at 20h00 and on August 27 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R60. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
