David Orr will present Organ Masters at the Cathedral of the Holy Nativity in Longmarket Street on May 20 at 15h00. The programme lasts about an hour and features music by Buxtehude, JS Bach, Howells and Whitlock.

Born in Cape Town, David Orr began piano lessons at the age of seven at Rondebosch Boys' Preparatory School. At 13 he started learning the organ with Christopher Dew. His teachers were Marc Murray, Garmon Ashby and Kathy Roberts. In 1995 he took organ as a subject for matriculation while completing the ABRSM Grade 8 exam in the same year.

After spending a year overseas, he won the Charles Bryars Organ scholarship to Rhodes University where he completed a BMus, having majored in Organ Performance under Christopher Cockburn. He also completed an RULO (teacher's licentiate) as well as two performing diplomas: RULM and LRSM. Having been awarded Distinction for BMus, he then received two postgraduate scholarships to complete the MMus (performance) degree also through Rhodes University. David is now on the staff at Epworth High School where he teaches music and directs the choirs.
