NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Eric Hutton's critically acclaimed Elton, produced as a Playhouse Cellar production in 1997, opens in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre for a short one-week season from September 7 to 12. The show ran for six and half months (and 187 performances) to full capacity and has played to thousands around the country and still enjoys resounding success. The toe-tapping whirlwind musical features 35 of Elton John's greatest hits as well as some of the latest numbers including Written in the Stars (the duet written for the film version of Aida with lyrics by Tim Rice). All the old favourite standards are there, such as Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Crocodile Rock, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me I'm Still Standing, Daniel, Sacrifice, The One and Pinball Wizard and many more. Talented performers Anthony Stonier, Percy Smith, Clinton Philander and Dale Venter (who recently wowed audiences in The Beatles show) feature in Elton which is directed by Peter Court, choreographed by Sharon Braby and written by Eric Hutton. There will be no ordinary public booking for Elton. The eight shows at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre are only being sold as fundraisers or corporate events.. Organisations and charities interested in buying a performance of the show to raise funds or as a function can call (031) 202-9093.
