Popular entertainers Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert have just returned from the 1999 Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown Festival and have launched straight into their innovative Aaron & Lisa’s Make a Quick Buck Festival which opens tonight in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre with the first show, Abba Maniacs.

“I wish we could have seen Abba Maniacs in this venue”, remarked one male festival-goer at the Grahamstown City Hall venue, “we would have had a better view of the legs!” And there’s a lot of “leg” in this show – Lisa Bobbert and Kate Bruce wear the shortest of mini skirts. On occasions, the mischievous Daryl Evans Fuchs shows a fair amount of leg as well, while Aaron’s manic leaping legs probably don’t enter the scenario! Female Grahamstown audience members were transfixed by the legs of Grant Almirall – well, they were happy to gaze on any part of this talented youngster’s body. Not bad for someone who has only been in professional theatre since Christmas! Another pair of legs, and these are pretty sturdy as they’ve a fairly impressive-sized body to keep off the floor, belong to Pinkie Mtshali who is an utter delight in lycra hitting a high operatic note every now and again to keep this crazy fun show under control!

A tribute to the famous Swedish singing group, Abba Maniacs is written and directed by Aaron McIlroy and runs for a week to be followed by Spicy Chicks, an all-girl musical featuring Lisa and Kate - joined this time by Marion Loudon. Spicy Chicks runs from July 20 to August 1. After that, Aaron and Lisa’s hugely popular and totally nutty runs for a further two weeks.
