After five years of running isicathamiya workshops to various high schools in the Durban Metro and outlying areas, Chris Ntuli of Durban Black Drifters decided to see how much the pupils had learnt. So he acquired sponsorship from Coca Cola and hosted a competition for 20 Umlazi Isicathamiya High Schools.

The choir competition was held on October 6 at the BAT Centre and the winners were Ogwini High School (1st prize of R1000), Sweci High School (2nd prize of R500) and Qhilika High School (3rd prize of R250).
