Ulrich Suesse is a name synonymous with electronic music having worked in this field since 1968 and composed almost 70 pieces using various electronic media. The electronic music studio at the University of Natal Durban was established by him when he was lecturer for composition and music theory there between 1973 and 1976. Ulrich returns to campus tomorrow (September 11) to give a free lunch-hour concert in Howard College Theatre at 12h15.

He has lectured extensively in music centres around the world and participated in festivals for electroacoustic music. He studied church music at the State Conservatory for Music in Stuttgart before studying composition with Karkoschka, Stockhausen, Pousseur and Ligeti. Thereafter he was awarded a DAAD bursary in New York to the Julliard School and the Manhattan School of Music where he studied under Berio, Wuorinen and Tanenbaum.

Ulrich Suesse’s programme promises to be interested and unusual, combining piano, violin, video and CD: Pierre Schaeffer’s Bilude for piano and CD; Yehuda Yannay’s In Madness There Is Order (CD-Version), and Maciej Walczak’s Just Look video. Ulrich Suesse will also play two of his own works Klangfassaden CD and Video (Cyberlinternet by Bruno Nagel) and Musicians plus one for musicians and CD.
