NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. MIDI Trust and Sun Circle Publishers are proud to announce the release of the third South African Music Industry Directory, previously known as the Music Africa Directory. The most comprehensive directory to date, it has grown from a modest collection of a few hundred entries in 1997 to over 2,500 different listings of key people and companies in the music industry. The information provided is critical to the development of the local music Industry and is highly beneficial for those working in different sectors of the industry and associated industries. Over and above the increase in entries, the directory has also added a number of new categories such as legal services, media, clinics/workshops, education and training as well as categories such as musicians, record companies, studios, artist management, equipment hire and venues. The directory offers sufficient information to run a major event from A to Z such as where to book the venue, equipment, technicians and sound engineers as well as lighting, staging and set design. Readers can source crew, security, bar services, event co-ordinators and ticketing – even down to band and DJ booking agencies, music sponsorship companies, posters and flyers as well as the publicity and promotions personnel to support the event. Corporations outside of the music industry can now make direct contact for video presentations, jingles, voice-over artists, performers and event co-ordinators. Advertising agencies wishing to launch products can contact specialists for a perfect launch party. Conceptualisation and co-ordination, entertainment, décor, gear, caterers, and bar services are also listed. The South African Music Industry Directory, which is supported by the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST), is available for R50 (plus R10 postage where applicable) from the MIDI Trust offices.
