Old Mutual, for some years associated with the development and recognition of South African musical talent, is now moving forward to the next phase of Old Mutual Jazz Encounters.

The intention behind the programme is to raise the profile of the South African jazz genre so that jazz lovers will be able to "encounter" a selection of fresh, new performers, while enjoying a broad and diverse range of the music of established South African jazz giants. It is hoped that emerging jazz performers will also get a chance to perform alongside top names like Miriam Makeba, Sibongile Khumalo, Paul Hamner and Jimmy Dludlu. The top prize is R10,000and categories are vocal, jazz group, soloist and Afro-jazz group or soloist.

To enter, applicants will be required to submit a completed Invitation To Enter form and a recording of their "hottest jazz sounds", on either audio tape, CD, DAT or video tape. The entry forms are available from various Musica stores, as well as from music schools, universities, technikons and jazz clubs.
