NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Themi Venturas Productions will present The Guitar that Rocked the World, an exciting new stage musical described as "a rockin' and rollin' celebration of the Fender Stratocaster guitar" at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from June 26 to July 23. The Fender “Strat” has a long and illustrious list of players to its name, including the likes of Eric Clapton, Hank B Marvin, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler and the show traces the history of the greatest guitar ever. It is all-American icon - like Harley Davidson, rock 'n roll and Disneyland. As journalist Jim Petersen put it, "This of course is a dangerous instrument. Once exposed to the Stratocaster, you may end up like millions of us who suffer from Strat-Styndrome, a guitar-induced mania characterised by extreme longing for other people's Fender guitars and an obsessive desire to play like Eric Clapton." The show will be directed by Themi Venturas and tickets can be booked through Computicket. More details from (031) 201-9292.
