NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Big Concerts and 5fm proudly present The Cranberries in Cape Town and Johannesburg in May. Formed in 1990, the Cranberries are now, arguably, the most popular of alternative bands, combining haunting lyrics with a Celtic flavour. Dolores Mary O'Riordan Burton (vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards), Noel Anthony Hogan (electric and acoustic guitars), Michael Gerard Hogan (bass guitar), Fergal Patrick Lawler (drums and percussion), all from Limerick, Ireland. The Cranberries are probably best known for their woeful and droning hit Zombie - a song about the war-torn conditions in their homeland of Ireland. In each of their albums The Cranberries boldly take on the world's problems, from drug addiction to the situation in Bosnia and are back with a new album titled Bury the Hatchet. Performances will take place on May 12 in Johannesburg at the MTN Sundome and on May 14 in Cape Town at the Bellville Velodrome. Tickets R100, R165 and R210 exclusive of TicketWeb service charges. Booking exclusively at TicketWeb: www.ticketweb.co.za or call 0861 400-500 or 082 232-7800.
