NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Splashy Fen, KZN’s music and lifestyle annual festival held in the Drakensberg, recently announced the appearance of Britain's top contemporary artiste, Colin Vearncombe from the group Black on the Redds Bamboo Mountain Stage on April 28. He will perform a variety of the Black hits as well as popular numbers from his new album, The Accused, backed by South African session musicians, Concord Nkabinde (bass) and Barry Van Zyl (drums) South African audiences became familiar with Colin Vearncombe’s work when he signed to the major label, A&M Records. The debut album Wonderful Life sold well and was followed by Comedy. Colin left A&M to release his fourth album, Are We Having Fun Yet, on his own Nero Schwartz label in 1993 which was a critical success and sold well on the Continent. The Accused was released in Europe via the Nero Schwartz label in September 1999. The Redds Bamboo Mountain Stage operates from April 27 to 30 between 12h00 and 19h00. It represents all of the most popular contemporary styles of music from around the world with special emphasis on South Africa.
