The Hexagon Theatre is looking for new talent to participate in its production of the Kander and Ebb Musical, Cabaret. The famous musical, set in Berlin in the early 1930's, is to be directed by Peter Mitchell with musical direction by Helen Vermaak and Justin Southey.

"We are looking for a range of performers: young people over 18 who can sing and dance, who make up the members of the Kit Kat Club's entertainers, as well as a few older parts, characters who inhabit the local Boarding house", says Peter Mitchell. They are also hoping to find musicians who would like to be a part of the project. The stage show is different from the 1972 Liza Minelli movie, with a more complex storyline. This production will be rehearsed intensively during July/August and performed in August.

The first round of auditions is for singers and takes place on June 3 and 4 from 18h30 in the Hexagon's Recording Studio on the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Pietermaritzburg campus.

Auditionees will be expected to sing a song (preferably from the show) without accompaniment. Those who are successful will be asked to come back for the next round of auditions.

Anyone wanting to audition should phone the Hexagon on 033 260 5537 or e-mail hexagon@ukzn.ac.za to make an appointment for a five minute slot on one of the evenings.
